Handwashing Communications Plan Draft 7/17/08
Goal: to increase hand hygiene compliance of healthcare workers in the Memphis area

  • Council to create a benchmark to determine current compliance rates against which to measure results of campaign

Communications will roll out in phases
General announcement of the initiative – May 19, 2008 Commercial Appeal story

  • Preparation
  • Launch (and ongoing after launch) – to be decided by council

Messages

  • Handwashing is a proven method if reducing infections and increasing safety in the hospital setting.
  • Memphis area hospitals are serious about increasing handwashing compliance, and this will be a major focus going forward.
  • It will take administrative and physician leadership and widespread acknowledgement and commitment to make this campaign a success.
  • We will be building our campaign upon proven successes at other healthcare institutions.
